Eleven starts on a bandbox tee snugly fitted between trees, rolls uphill for its first several hundred yards, crests, adjusts course slightly to port and then takes off downhill on a straight line for the green. It’s a five-par that Boatwright felt can be assaulted with three woods more than drivers. The reason for the caution is out of bounds on the left and trees on the right. “A good tee shot puts you on the road home,” Boatwright said. The golfer can hammer away on his second shot. At the green, however, an alpine slope falls away to a bunker left. Putts – especially when the hole is front and right – are severe” (Boatwright’s word).
